materia is the energy from the heart after it has been returned to the world through natural death. if yuffie were to die, she would probably become a steal materia in a decade or so. that's my plan.

if someone dies (not becomes a heartless or fades into nothingnes), of all his parts are destroyed, he returnes to the world. for the next 50 years he will be re-incarnated as materia. if he was strong enough to form a nobody then from the fivth year onwards keymateria will form. this is vital for building keychains. one materia forms in the first year, two in the second, three in the third and so on. 50 will be formed in the last year, then it will dwindle back down.
if the soul was strong enough to form an unbeing, then a forbidden keychain is formed on the 100th year. if the soul was darker, a demon keychain. if it was lighter, an angel keychain.
