no, we need to preserve sephiroths awsomeness, side quest fits better because then you only battle him when your good enough.
maybe once with cloud in the main story, and the again on your own in a side quest?

who says we only have one side boss?
all im saying is that you still fight him as a storyliner, only you get the optional chance to fight him again later at a higher lv, and without clouds help.
