how about you only get one element of each spell and to level up cure for example you have to be a white mage for a bit so you can't use black magic and your attack iks halfed but you have cura instead of cure and occaisionally the spells level up

yay. and to level up strenghth without leveling up levels 9aka leveling strengh faster) then you become a worrior but can't use magic

I think you should be able to train in guilds to raise stats, or gain abilities, like Jump from dragoon guild, or doublecast from the red magic guild.
